The style of writing and my motivation for this column goes back to my fandom of Providence Journal columnist Bill Reynolds. His use of the word ‘Bunky’ became Bill’s nickname that sprouted organically from his readers. Our mutual friend Ken ‘Jersey Red’ Ford used to say, “I read it where you wrote it.” Such a column is born. Early in my media career, they were two guys who accepted me for me and took the time to get to know me. I’ll always remember that. Thank you.
-- If we heard "Thank you" more than the "F&%$ You", the world would be a better place.
-- I couldn’t be more disappointed in the lack of fight in the Celtics. Until Jayson Tatum plays defense at an elite level, I don’t want to hear nothin’ about Mamba Mentality.
-- It’s said in baseball that you take stock of a team on Memorial Day. I don’t think we have to wait to assess the Red Sox.
-- I think podcaster Conrad Thompson is the world’s most interesting man. Wrestling fans know.
-- Why do I feel like Tristan Thompson isn’t good for the young Celtics players?
-- I’ve agreed to dropping this column on Thursdays, and in doing so I inadvertently am stealing ‘Gresh & Keefe’ producer John Andersen’s Thursday Thunder (or whatever it’s called) on WEEI.com. I don’t know if he will recover. His column on Mac Jones for Rookie of the Year is quite good. It’s at WEEI.com.
-- This Saturday’s UFC 242 Main Event between Michael Chandler vs. Charles Oliveira for the vacant Lightweight Title has "Fight of the Year" written all over it. These two are animals and one will have a future big money main event against Dustin Poirier.
-- I love UFC. The vibe at the live events is different from every other sport.
-- Note to those who design public toilets: Please mount the currently mounted way too low toilet paper role, up about a good two feet. EVERYONE reaches down! Imagine being 6-foot-5, wide, and smashin’ my twig and giggle-berries together because the MASSIVE oversized toilet paper role is mounted mid-calf.
-- Shohei Ohtani is the most underrated story in sports. Ten strikeouts in seven innings his last outing and then played right field. Like no one we’ve ever seen.
-- For those who listen to Gresh & Keefe, yes, I am that picky an eater. A FORMER FAT FACT: I didn’t eat pasta until I was 20 years old. The breakthrough came at a hotel in Williamsburg Virginia before our game against William & Mary in 1995. Yup, didn’t eat pasta as a kid.
-- I think the season Tom Brady is about to unleash on the NFL at 44 years old will be marveled at for the rest of time.
-- I also think the Patriots will have a Top 8 defense this year. If it clicks, they could be Top 5.
--Thanks to Rob Bradford for allowing me to spew my B.S. each week.
Gresh is co-host of ‘Gresh & Keefe’ 10a-2p, Monday-Friday on the WEEI Sportsradio Network. He is also co-author of ‘The Great Book of Boston Sports Lists’
