Josh McDaniels is one of the best offensive minds in the NFL and he's having another terrific season this year with rookie Mac Jones.

So, will he be one of the top head-coaching candidates this offseason now that he's shown he can win without Tom Brady?

Appearing on Gresh & Keefe Thursday, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport discussed McDaniels as a head coach and noted he made the right decision by leaving the Colts at the altar and not taking that job back in 2018.

“With Josh, I think he should be a head coach by now," Rapoport said (listen to more above). "I understand why he has not been. I understand the Colts situation. I actually think the history of what happened with the Colts situation has almost made him look better because I don’t think he felt great about the quarterback situation there. I don’t think he felt [Andrew] Luck was, and I don’t want to put words in his mouth, I don’t think he felt like Luck was all-in. Obviously, he was not. He literally retired and I think he had some questions about the organization. And they’ve been OK, average. Certainly not one of the stalwart organizations over the last decade.

"So, I think his decision was OK. His development of the quarterback position has been incredible. I think he’s proven himself. He should be a head coach. And actually, last year, it sounded like his interview with the Eagles went extremely well. He didn’t get hired. I don’t know why. But, it sounded like it went extremely well. I would expect him to be very much in the mix this year. It’s really a matter of is there going to be a job he wants.”

McDaniels has interviewed with several teams the last few years, but ultimately has stayed with the Patriots.
