On WEEI on Monday, Jon Lyons and KJ Carson discussed whether Tom Brady Day on Sunday, and all the celebration that goes with it, is overshadowing a major early season test for the Patriots. New England is hosting the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles at 4:25 p.m. (Listen to the full discussion starting at 22:04 below.)
“Fans know that this team has not started well (in recent years), but I think that conversation comes up more in Week 2 than Week 1 this year,” Lyons said. “A lot of people are looking at it like, ‘Week 1 Philly is coming to town. They have an elite roster and just went to the Super Bowl, so if the Patriots even lose a close game people will feel encouraged moving forward.’ But if they lose to Miami at home in Week 2 and then you have two home losses to start the year or your 1-2 after three weeks, then I think people will be concerned.”
Added KJ: “There is no Week Zero in the NFL. This is the concern that I have… the return of Brady is a chance to eat the dessert before the dinner, but the dinner is still game one against the Eagles.”
KJ and Jon will be back on WEEI on Saturday afternoon with an in-depth preview of Patriots vs. Eagles.
