LSU running backs coach Kevin Faulk was away from the team and expected to miss Saturday's game against Central Michigan following the death of his 19-year-old daughter, Kevione.

Head coach Ed Orgeron confirmed Faulk's absence and expressed condolences during the SEC coaches' weekly conference call on Wednesday.

"I don't expect him to be here on Saturday," Orgeron told reporters. "I expect him to take his time and put his family first."

Faulk is in his second year as the team's running back coach. He previously served in player development for two years upon rejoining the program in 2018.

LSU and Orgeron both responded to Kevione Faulk's passing on Monday. Media reports said the 19-year-old was a student-worker for the football staff. A cause of death had not been announced.

"We are heartbroken with the passing of Kevione Faulk, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Faulk family," LSU said in a statement. "She was a part of the LSU family, and we mourn the loss of a daughter, a sister, a friend, a classmate and a colleague."

Orgeron said the young woman would be "sorely missed" in the LSU program.

Before returning to LSU in 2018, Kevin Faulk was a star running back with Tigers in the late 90s and remains the school's all-time leading rusher. He was drafted by the Patriots in the second round in 1999, and won three Super Bowl titles during his 13-year career, all in New England.
