The preseason is in the books and now all eyes are on the Dolphins for the regular season opener.

But, when it comes to the quarterback position, Bill Belichick isn't ready to name a starter.

So, what is Mac Jones' mindset?

“I’m here to play any role that I can play and help any way I can,” he said to reporters after Sunday's game. “I’m going to be ready whenever my time comes. We’ve got work to do and we’ll get the things fixed and then we’ll keep rolling.”

Jones did say he will continue to prepare like he's QB1.

“I learned at a young age to prepare like the starter,” he said. “You don’t have to be the starter, but prepare, get in your routine.”

The rookie has been competing with Cam Newton since the first day of training camp, so does he believe he's done enough to win the job?

“I’ve gotten a lot of opportunities to play,” Jones replied. “I can improve on everything that I want to improve on. So I think just learning from (Brian) Hoyer, Cam, Jarrett (Stidham) anybody I can. Just listening to Josh (McDaniels) and his coaching. There’s a lot of work to do but I think I’ve made progress. But honestly, the only thing that matters is today. Then tomorrow I’ll focus on tomorrow. But I think the past is the past and we’re kind of moving on to the new season here.”

The Patriots will host the Dolphins on Sept. 12.
