Tom Brady suffered the worst of his career Sunday night, as the Saints blew the Bucs out, 38-3 on Sunday Night Football.
The Tampa Bay offense started the game with four straight three-and-outs and Brady finished with three picks and no touchdowns. It also wasn't like the interceptions were normal NFL interceptions -- they were almost like Brady had given up and was just throwing the ball in the air.
It went beyond Brady, as the Buccaneers as a team did not seem prepared at all and committed a number of pre-snap penalties.
Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, former Patriots executive Mike Lombardi acknowledged Brady probably misses playing for Bill Belichick in New England when it comes to a few things.
“I think Brady does miss the structure, the consistency," he said. "He was in a marriage for 19 years and every time [he] got ready to play a game he was used to it and now it’s completely different. This is what we all learn, people from the Belichick Mafia, we all learn that it’s not the same that it is in that building. When you go somewhere else and you think it is, you learn the hard way it’s not.”
As for what those differences are?
“The preparation for the game. Game situations. Got-to-have-it plays," Lombardi said. "What plays are we going to run? What is going to happen in this situation? What is the offense going to run when they have to have a play" What is the defense going to run? What the best third-yardage plays? All the situations in the game. What does their onside kick look like? What happens if they run a fake punt out of this formation? All this stuff gets covered and you feel really prepared going into a game. That doesn’t happen all the time because head coaches are looking at their play sheet, so they are not really looking at everything that is going on, they relying on their assistants - not in New England.”
Brady and the Bucs are 6-3 on the year.
