Despite all the rumors heading into the NFL Draft of the Patriots trading into the top 10, it ultimately didn't happen as the team stayed at No. 15 overall and took Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.
But, they could have traded up if they wanted to.
According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, a team in the top 10 who had spoken with the Patriots ahead of the draft called them Thursday about potentially moving up and the Patriots' response was in essence, "We’re good.”
The Giants moved back at No. 11 overall where the Bears traded up to select quarterback Justin Fields, who many connected to the Patriots. But, it doesn't seem like New England was actually interested as Breer also said the Patriots did not place a call to New York about moving up there.
Jones will compete with Cam Newton and Jarrett Stidham for the starting job, although it seems like the Patriots will be patient with him.
