For the second straight year, NFL teams are interested in speaking with Patriots inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo to be a head coach.
Mayo interviewed with the Eagles last offseason and now according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Broncos have requested permission to speak with him following parting ways with Vic Fangio on Sunday.
The former Patriots linebacker is only in his third year as a coach, but has quickly gained a ton of respect around the league.
Although Mayo is a terrific leader, it would be a big jump going from inside linebackers coach to NFL head coach, especially when he's never even called plays.
The Patriots are in the middle of preparing for the Bills, so we'll see if and when the interview is granted.
