This is interesting.
According to Vic Tafur of The Athletic, on Tuesday there was a strong buzz Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler would be going to Las Vegas as a head coach-general manager duo, but now that appears unlikely.
The report says McDaniels was calling around the league to put together a staff, but "something happened in the last 24 hours." It's likely the "something" had to do with money, power structure, or both. Now, the duo are no longer the leaders in the clubhouse.
[UPDATE, 1/27]: McDaniels has reportedly been requested for an interview.
Ziegler interviewed last Friday, while McDaniels has not even been requested. Patriots linebackers coach Jerod Mayo interviewed on Tuesday.
Las Vegas has more GM and head coach interviews scheduled in the coming days, which seem to be an indication it's likely Ziegler-McDaniels will not be hired.
The Raiders reportedly spoke with Titans national scout Ruston Webster and Steelers pro scouting coordinator Brandon Hunt, and are looking to speak with Buccaneers vice president of player personnel John Spytek as well. In addition, Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is expected to interview this week, as well as 49ers defensive coordinator defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans.
