Damien Harris has been one of the Patriots’ most impressive players this summer, but in an unfortunate turn of events, he may not be able to play Week 1.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the second-year running back has a hand injury and that could threaten his availability for the season opener against Miami.

"From what we've seen, and the training camp he's had, I tell you what, he's pretty exciting,” running backs coach Ivan Fears told reporters Wednesday.

Harris has missed the last two practices and it’s worth noting there will be no injury report until next Wednesday.

The Alabama product made the most of his opportunities early in training camp with Sony Michel still on PUP and looked like a player ready to make an impact.

With Harris sidelined, Michel likely will assume the lead back role as long as he’s ready to go, with Rex Burkhead and potentially Lamar Miller behind him. James White will continue in his third-down role, especially in the passing game.

The Patriots will host Miami Sept. 13.
