the greg hill show: bill belichick joins the show following the patriots 31-17 loss to the dolphins
As a result of their 31-17 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday, the Patriots, for the first time since 2000, sit at 2-6 through eight weeks of the 2023 NFL season.
What’s looming is not only potential questions of job security an position changes, but also the NFL’s trade deadline. Team’s must finalize trade transactions..
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was asked on WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show what his teams’ mindset is heading into Tuesday, specifically following Sunday’s injuries to guys like Kendrick Bourne, DeVante Parker, and Ja’Whaun Bentley.
"Yeah, I don’t know. We just got back from the game last night. We’ll regroup here today and see where things are at," Belichick said.
He was then asked what the factors are that go into being ‘buyers’ vs. ‘sellers’:
“Yeah, every situation’s different,” he explained. “I mean, it takes two people to make a trade. It would have to work for both teams, whichever teams those are.”
When asked about how these decisions factor into the future of the franchise beyond 2024, Belichick continued:
“Yeah, well again, at this time of year it’s a lot different of a situation than it is at any other time of the year," he said. "So we’ll talk to our guys in the personnel department, see if there’s anything to talk about. Which I don’t know if there is or isn’t. So, we’ll see how it goes.”
One player to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline is Josh Uche. The linebacker was a limited participant in practice last week with a toe/foot injury but didn’t travel with the team to Miami this weekend. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the 2020 third-round pick has garnered interest across the league as he plays out his contract year.
Belichick also spoke about the offense turning the football over, the safety of his players, and more on Monday’s edition of WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show. You can listen to the full interview here.
