6 Rings Prospect Preview: Quarterbacks

After a trip to Southern California to watch USC quarterback Caleb Williams throw at his Pro Day, the Patriots' scouting brass is onto Ann Arbor.

A contingent that includes director of scouting Eliot Wolf, offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, and quarterbacks coach T.C. McCartney will reportedly be joined by head coach Jerod Mayo in Michigan on Friday. The headliner? Quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

Through 28 games with McCarthy as their starting quarterback over the last two seasons, the Wolverines went 27-1 and won the 2023-24 National Championship. Along the way, he threw 44 touchdowns and 9 interceptions while adding eight scores on the ground.

We dove into McCarthy's game, among the other quarterbacks, on our 6 Rings and Football Things prospect preview last month. You can listen to the full episode here.

McCarthy measured in at 6-foot-2 1/2 at the NFL Combine last month with a weight of 219 pounds. After a solid throwing session mixed with rave intangibles, he continues to climb up draft boards. According to the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed, the Patriots met with McCarthy at the Combine.

New England's Pro Day circuit will continue on next week with a visit to LSU to watch QB Jayden Daniels on Wednesday, followed by a trip to the University of North Carolina, where quarterback Drake Maye will throw, on Thursday.

The Patriots hold the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
