The Patriots were loaded up with a nine-person contingent at the UNC Pro Day in Chapel Hill on Thursday, but it wasn’t just to scout quarterback Drake Maye — who many believe will be New England’s pick at No. 3 overall.

According to Sportskeeda’s Tony Pauline, the Patriots also met with Tarheels wide receiver Tez Walker.

Walker, a transfer from Kent State, caught 41 passes for 699 yards and 7 touchdowns in eight games for North Carolina this season, quickly developing into Drake Maye’s No. 1 target after missing four games due to an eligibility restriction.

The North Carolina native measured in at 6-foot-1, 193 pounds at the NFL Combine and ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash.

The Patriots are in need of wide receiver help, so keeping tabs on guys like Walker among the rest of the class makes sense. Though they signed pass catcher K.J. Osborn earlier this month, the current room consists of just him, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kendrick Bourne, Tyquan Thornton, DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, and Jalen Reagor.

According to reports, New England has been keeping tabs on the trade market for a veteran wide receiver.
