With Dave Ziegler taking the Las Vegas Raiders' general manager job, the Patriots were in need of a new director of player personnel.
They found it by promoting from within, as the team announced on Tuesday that Matt Groh has been named the new director of player personnel.
Groh is entering his 12th season in the New England organization. He served as the team's college scouting director last year after previously spending two years as a scouting assistant, six as an area scout, and two as a national scout.
Groh, a Hingham native, is the son of former Patriots defensive coordinator and University of Virginia head coach Al Groh. He played college football as a quarterback at Princeton.
