jones and mego: What kind of coach do the Patriots need to be successful?
Closing out a flurry of roster moves on Monday, the Patriots placed guard Cole Strange on injured reserve. His 2023 season is over.
Strange injured his knee during Sunday’s contest against the Chiefs and had to be carted off the field. He was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game.
"Cole’s a tough kid," Patriots center and captain David Andrews said following the game. "He was mad that they were bringing the cart out. He wanted to walk, and they kind of told him that wasn’t an option."
A first round pick in 2022, Strange has had both an up-and-down and an injury riddled start to his pro career. The former UT-Chattanooga Moc began the season banged up with a knee injury he suffered during training camp, but had started to come on over the course of the last several weeks."
"The more he's been able to stay on the field, the better he's gotten," Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said on Monday. "I think he's been playing his best football lately."
New England’s interior depth in the offensive line room now consists of Sidy Sow, Atonio Mafi, and Jake Andrews all of whom are rookies. James Ferentz and Kody Russey on the practice squad, it could make sense for the Patriots to elevate one of the two over the coming weeks as they close out their season.
The Patriots also reportedly claimed quarterback Nathan Rourke off of waivers on Monday after losing Will Grier to the Chargers, and are expected to sign running back Ke'Shawn Vaughn to their practice squad.
