The Patriots made a minor roster transaction ahead of Thursday's OTA session.
According to Jim McBride of The Boston Globe, New England has released fullback Dan Vitale and signed tight end Troy Fumagalli.
Vitale opted out of the 2020 season after signing with the team last offseason. This means Jakob Johnson is the only true fullback on the roster and is good news for him when it comes to making the team.
Fumagalli was selected in the fifth round of the 2018 draft by the Broncos. He was with Denver until a few weeks on Houston's practice squad at the end of last season. In 19 career games, he has 14 catches. This is more of a depth signing at the position, which feels pretty well set at the moment.
The Patriots will continue with Phase 3 of the voluntary offseason workout program with an OTA Thursday.
