Patriots potentially trading for Bears WR Allen Robinson could make sense

How good do the Patriots feel about their chances this season when it comes to being able to compete with the Ravens and Chiefs in the AFC?

If they do like them, another productive wide receiver is needed and one may be available in Allen Robinson of the Bears.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Robinson has asked for a trade.

He is in the final season of a three-year, $42-million contract that he signed in March of 2018. Earlier Tuesday, he recently removed all photos with the Bears from his social media and got rid of a banner that had him in a Bears uniform.

Robinson finished 2019 with 98 catches for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns.

Based on the summer and what we saw Sunday against Miami, the Patriots could use another threat in the passing game. The only receivers to be targeted by Cam Newton were Julian Edelman and N’Keal Harry, even with Damiere Byrd playing 56-of-64 offensive snaps.

There isn’t much depth at the position either, as besides those three there’s Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski, who is currently on injured reserve.

Adding a player like Robinson could also have a huge impact on a player like Edelman, who is 34 years old. The Patriots seem to want to monitor his usage throughout the year and then when he is on the field, having another wide out like Robinson could open things up on the field for him as defenses would have another player to key on.

It’s unclear what the asking price would be at this point, but if the Patriots feel they are another playmaker away from being an AFC contender, they should absolutely be calling the Bears and to see what they want.
