the greg hill show: Devin McCourty joins, says the key to the Swifty bowl is stopping Kelce
The Patriots' next franchise quarterback, whoever that may be, will have plenty of brainpower to rely on from a coaching angle.
In addition to the hirings of Alex Van Pelt as offensive coordinator and Ben McAdoo as a senior offensive assistant, New England now has their eyes on T.C. McCartney to become their next quarterbacks coach, according to CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones.
Following his playing career at LSU from 2007 to 2010, McCartney served as a graduate assistant for the Tigers under Les Miles in 2011 (and again in 2016), and at Colorado from 2012-2013. His first NFL coaching job came in 2014 with the Cleveland Browns under offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, where he served as an offensive assistant.
McCartney reunited with Shanahan when he became the head coach of 49ers, serving as an offensive assistant and quality control coach for San Francisco from 2017-2018. He then became the Broncos quarterbacks coach in 2019.
McCartney, 34, has worked under now-Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt with the Browns for the last four seasons. He was an offensive assistant from 2020-2021, and their tight ends coach from 2022-2023. Tight end David Njoku had a career year with Cleveland this past season, hauling in 81 catches for 882 yards and six touchdowns.
