Patriots players may be just as perplexed about Kendrick Bourne’s benching as everybody else.
On NBC Sports Boston Sunday, Patriots reporter Phil Perry said Bourne’s teammates don’t know why he was benched Sunday, and want him to play more.
“[He is] somebody who is frustrated, would like to play more,” said Perry. “And I can tell you his teammates — there are some that I’ve spoken to that would like to see him play more as well, and they are surprised they are not seeing more of Kendrick Bourne.”
Bourne was on the field for two plays, on which ended with him reeling in a 41-yard reception. On the sideline, Perry says Bourne kept holding up one finger on the sideline, as if to say “one target, one big play.”
Bourne also visibly expressed frustration after Nelson Agholor’s fumble, which followed Bourne’s 41-yard catch. Jonnu Smith had to help calm him down.
After the game, Bourne was diplomatic, telling reporters he’s not giving the coaches what they want to see in practice. Bill Belichick, predictably, hasn’t add insight into the situation.
“I thought 'KB' did a great job stepping in there when we needed him. Made a big play for us. He's a good player. I'm sure that he'll have plenty of opportunities, as all of our skill players will, going forward,” Belichick said Monday on “The Greg Hill Show.”
Bourne is a good player. That’s probably why his teammates wanted to see him out there.
