Earlier this offseason, NBC Sports Boston's Tom E. Curran appeared on Dale & Keefe and said the Patriots would be "uncharacteristically aggressive" this offseason.
On Tuesday, Curran detailed what that could look like/mean.
“I think while we’ve talked about it in this show and we’re continue to, about the aggressiveness that I have been told the Patriots are going to engage in, it has to be selective aggressiveness," he said. "… To me, I think it would be with [Matthew] Stafford, who was really ticketed into one spot and not interested, and definitely with [Carson] Wentz, those felt like non-starters.
Aggressiveness in a situation, [Marcus] Mariota, you look at the Raiders. They are committing to [Derek] Carr by all accounts. They have re-signed and brought aboard Nathan Peterman as their backup. Mariota is just sitting there with a $10 million salary. Yeah, if the Patriots sign him and he plays well it’s going to cost $18 million — so? That is where the aggressiveness in my estimation comes in guys.”
Curran also shared his thoughts on the Cam Newton podcast from Monday. Listen to the complete interview below.
