On Monday, it was announced Tedy Bruschi is taking a job at his alma mater, the University of Arizona, as a senior adviser to new head coach Jedd Fisch.
Fisch took the job late last season after being the Patriots’ quarterbacks coach for one year.
So, what exactly will Bruschi be doing? Well, whatever he’s doing won’t take him away from ESPN.
According to Albert Breer of the MMQB, he will still live on the East Coast and work for ESPN, but will “have a real presence in a program where his name still carries a ton of weight.”
Breer added Bruschi and Fisch connected well when Fisch became a real candidate for the job and the two communicated via Zoom during the interview process.
The school’s release said Bruschi “will serve as a member of the executive football management team while serving as a consultant with the entire football staff. He will also assist the head coach in alumni relations, fundraising, social justice initiatives and student-athlete development off the field.”
The former Patriots linebacker has worked for ESPN for the last 11 years.
Bruschi starred at Arizona from 1992-95 as a key member of the Wildcats’ “Desert Swarm” defense. He was a First Team All-American in 1994 and 1995, the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 1995, and the Fiesta Bowl MVP in 1993. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
