Mac Jones was very hard on himself following Sunday's loss to the Dolphins.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Jones said his performance was "super embarrassing."

So, why did he use such strong words?

“I think I just didn’t have my best day," he said Monday on Merloni & Fauria. "It starts with me being the quarterback, just trying to get everything going in the right direction. And moving forward that’s something I have to do better — get off to a faster start and put our team in a position to win and play ahead early. Moving on to next week, that’s one of the things we want to work on, the execution part for the whole 60 minutes, maybe not just for a half or for a quarter.”

The Patriots are a much different team when they are ahead, as they are 8-1 when scoring in the first quarter this season and 2-6 when they don't.

With that being said, Jones is still a rookie, so does he feel like he's too hard on himself sometimes?

“I want everything to be perfect and all that, but it’s a team sport and we’re all in this together," he said. "Like I said, it all starts with me trying to get everybody the ball and operate the offense. I’ve played a lot of games so far this year and I just try and get better every week. That’s all you can ask for. It just comes down to execution. That’s the game of football — Xs and Os and doing the right thing on every play. It’s not necessarily about other things.”

The Patriots will travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills Saturday night on Wild Card Weekend.

“I think we’re very familiar with their players and they are very familiar with us," Jones aid. "We just have to go there and trust the coaches and our game plan and just execute it a little better than we have in the past games. That’s what it comes down to, execution, and obviously like I said, the teams know each other really well and we have the [utmost] respect for the Bills.”
