Mut, Scheim and I had hoped to make a grandiose entrance to the NFL betting season in 2021.
Well, we made an entrance. It’s like if Billy Joel opened with ‘She’s Got A Way’ and THEN played ‘Big Shot’.
Scheim’s 2-1 record carried the water for the crew while Mut and I were a combined 1-5, the Damien Harris rushing total being the only bet either of us hit. Scheim stood alone on Dolphins +3.5.
Here’s the full record breakdown for the week:
Mut: 0-3
Me: 1-2
Scheim: 2-1
Total: 3-7
Ouch.
Check out the full recap on this week’s recap podcast below.
Entering our ‘Big Shot’ era, this week we largely stayed away from the Patriots. In fact, we’ve instituted a no betting on road teams rule and a no betting on the Falcons rule -- which were only violated twice this week.
However, we did start off this week’s picks podcasts talking Patriots, with Scheim not going for the full Patriots -6.5 cover and Mut and I rolling with Mac Jones and gang against the spread.
My rationale is this: the Jets are worse than the Dolphins EVERYWHERE. Mac Jones should be able to throw down the field more often, and in fact will be expected to in the game plan. All of the Jets’ CBs are in their first or second seasons and were either 5th, 6th, or 7th round picks or were not drafted at all. Plus, safety Lamarcus Joyner is out for the season. Offensively, starting LT Mekhi Becton is out for some time and the rest of the offensive line struggled in Week 1. The Patriots’ front seven should be far more effective this week than it was last.
Here are the rest of our picks for Week 2:
Mut: SF @ PHI over 50.5; ATL @ TB over 51.5; CAR +3.5 v NO
Scheim: LAR -4 @ IND; CIN +2.5 @ CHI; DAL @ LAC over 56.0
John: DEN -6 @ JAX; PIT -5.5 vs LV; DAL ML @ LAC
