The New York Yankees need every game they could possibly get as they try to hang on for dear life in the wild-card race.
The last thing they need is for their ace to leave in the middle of the fourth inning in a game that they are trailing.
That is exactly what happened on Tuesday night as Gerrit Cole exited Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays with two outs in the fourth inning. The Yankees announced it was due to left hamstring tightness.

Cole left the game with the Yankees trailing 3-1. The last pitch he threw was a 95.1 mph fastball, which is his third-slowest of the season, although he was topping at 100 mph earlier in the night.

YES Network analyst David Cone speculated that it Cole could be dealing with a blister on one of his fingers, explaining that it appeared he had some trouble with his breaking ball.
While a blister would have been a minor injury, the Yankees sound optimistic that they got out in front of Cole worsening the hamstring.
Following the game, Aaron Boone said the team does not expect Cole to undergo an MRI and is hopeful he could make his next start, but admitted they would not know much more until they see how he feels on Wednesday.
