While the Red Sox major league team has yet to make a big splash this offseason, the organization is making some waves as the international signing period approaches.
Major League Baseball teams are allowed to start signing international free agents Friday. The name that jumps out when it comes to the Red Sox is 16-year-old outfielder Miguel Bleis.
According to Baseball America, the signing bonus for Bleis figures to land between $1.5-$2 million, which would far eclipse any commitment given by the Red Sox for last year's class. It would be the largest signing bonus given by the Sox since allocating $3.1 million to Daniel Flores in 2017.
At 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, Bleis is believed to be one of the most athletically-gifted players available. MLB Pipeline lists him as the No. 21-ranked international free agent on the market.
