The Red Sox have added one more familiar face to their spring training.
The team announced Friday morning that Travis Shaw had agreed to a minor-league deal with an invitation to major league camp.
This will technically be the third go-round with the Red Sox for Shaw, who played in 28 regular season games with Boston in 2021, hitting .238 with an .843 OPS.
Shaw will have an opportunity to make the team as a left-handed-hitting complement to Bobby Dalbec at first base.
According to a source, if Shaw makes the Red Sox he will make $1.5 million.
"Obviously, he did a good job for us," said Red Sox manager Alex Cora of Shaw. "You never know what can happen from here until the start of the season. He’s somebody that, the way he went about it last year with limited at-bats. The quality of the at-bats, and he can play good defense. He looks actually in good shape. He made some adjustments in the offseason so we’ll give him at-bats and see where it takes us."
