Triston Casas leaves on stretcher after 'significant' knee injury

The Red Sox had another round of bad news on the injury front Friday night.

In the second inning of the Sox' series-opener against the Twins, Triston Casas seemingly injured his left knee after hitting first base awkwardly while running out a slow roller.

After the play, Casas was immediately tended to by manager Alex Cora and the Red Sox training staff, which ultimately called for a cart to bring the first baseman off the field.

On Saturday, Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow told reporters that Casas is expected to miss the rest of the season with left patellar tendon rupture.

It is just over a year from the time Casas suffered a rib injury that kept him out for the majority of the 2024 season, having been sidelined after a swing in Pittsburgh on April 20.

Casas had been hitting much better in recent days, totaling a .974 OPS with two homers in his last seven games.

Earlier Friday, the team announced that starting pitcher Walker Buehler was being placed on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
