As Major League Baseball moves into the Midsummer Classic and the halfway point of the season, it’s important to take a look at some of the players who may get their shot on the big stage sometime soon. Here's how the top five prospects in the Mets' farm system, according to MLB Pipeline, are doing this season -- as well as one famous bonus prospect.

Andres Gimenez (Binghamton, Double-A)

Through 63 games this season with the Rumble Ponies, the Venezuelan shortstop has hit .230 with three homers. Despite the low batting average, Gimenez, 20, has collected nearly a hit a game, with 56 hits and 82 total bases at the halfway point of the season. In the field, Gimenez has committed just six errors so far and spun 23 double plays.

Ronny Mauricio (Columbia Fireflies, Single-A)

Mauricio has 85 hits in 71 games with a .286 batting average and .374 slugging percentage. The switch-hitting shortstop has the Mets organization excited that he can make an impact on both sides of the plate, and both sides of the ball. The Dominican Republic native, however, will have to tighten up defensively, as the 18-year-old has committed 16 errors so far this season.

Anthony Kay (Syracuse Mets, Triple-A)

A first-round pick by the Mets in 2016 (31st overall), Kay, a left-handed pitcher, impressed in Double-A earlier this season, going 7-3 with a 1.49 ERA. After 12 starts, the Long Island native was called up to Triple-A but has struggled to adjust so far. Kay is winless in four starts, posting a 0-3 record with a 9.64 ERA. The 24-year-old seemed to be on the fast track to the majors, especially with the woes the big-league Mets have had on their staff, but it's clear Kay needs more time in Syracuse. He will represent the National League in Sunday night's Futures Game in Cleveland.

Mark Vientos (Columbia Fireflies, Single-A)

A second-round draft pick out of high school in 2017, Vientos is hitting .254 with six home runs and 37 RBIs. Those might be middle-of-the-road numbers, but keep in mind he is just 19 years old. Vientos may have helped his cause by switching from shortstop to third base last season -- potentially avoiding a logjam at shortstop as he rises through the ranks. But he is still getting used to his new position, and the numbers show it, as he has committed 18 errors this year.

Shervyen Newton (Columbia Fireflies, Single-A)

Newton was challenged last year by moving from the Dominican Summer League up to rookie ball and fared well. However, after now making the jump again to Class A, the utility infielder is struggling, batting just .180 with two home runs, 11 RBIs and 72 strikeouts. The 20-year-old still has a lot of growing to do.

BONUS: Tim Tebow (Syracuse Mets, Triple-A)

The Mets' most famous prospect, of course, is not considered one of their top prospects. Tebow enjoyed a fairly successful season in Double-A in 2018 before a broken hand cut his season short. The 31-year-old, however, has had a rough go at it in Triple-A, hitting just .163 with three home runs. But the former Broncos and Jets quarterback has homered in two of his last four games, so perhaps he's turning a corner in his development.
