The Mets are reportedly close to signing Carlos Gomez, nearly four years after a trade for the outfielder -- which famously left Wilmer Flores in tears -- fell apart.

According to multiple reports, Gomez is on the verge of signing a minor league deal with the Mets. The agreement is pending a physical.

Brought up through the Mets' minor league system, Gomez played his rookie year in New York in 2007 but was then sent to the Minnesota Twins in the January 2008 Johan Santana trade.

Gomez, 33, has spent 12 seasons in the majors, also playing for the Brewers, Astros, Rangers and Rays. He's a two-time All-Star whose best seasons came with Milwaukee in 2013 and 2014, when he .284 both years with 24 and 23 home runs, respectively.

In July 2015, the Mets had reportedly agreed to trade pitcher Zack Wheeler and Flores to the Brewers for Gomez but then backed out of the deal over concerns about Gomez's hip. Upon hearing the rumors during a home game against the Padres, Flores wept while in the field.

The Mets then shifted their attention to trading for Yoenis Cespedes, who led them to the World Series that season.

Gomez ended up being dealt to the Astros and has largely struggled since. In 118 games last season with Tampa Bay, he hit .208 with nine homers and 32 RBIs.
