The Mets received fairly good news Wednesday about J.D. Davis, who hurt his left shoulder during Tuesday's spring training game against the Detroit Tigers.

An MRI on Wednesday didn't show "a ton of inflammation" or "any new structural damage," general manager Brodie Van Wagenen said. Davis suffered the injury while diving for a ball at third base.

Van Wagenen said the outfielder/third baseman will begin rehabbing Wednesday.

"We're going to see how his symptoms progress here over the course of the next couple of days, get him moving and hopefully be able to have a better handle after the next week in terms of what his physical activity will be able to be," the Mets' general manager said.

Van Wagenen said the MRI did reveal a previous labrum injury to the shoulder that is asymptomatic.

Davis, 26, enjoyed a breakout year last season, his first with the Mets. He hit .307 with 22 home runs and 57 RBIs. In three spring training games this year, Davis is batting .400 (2-for-5) with an RBI.
