A key member of the Mets’ bullpen is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Jeurys Familia struggled in the ninth inning of Tuesday night’s game against the Reds. The Mets eventually beat Cincinnati 4-3, but it took extra innings after Familia walked a batter and allowed three consecutive hits to blow the six-out save.

Daniel Zamora had to come in and relieve Familia to end the inning, and now Familia has been placed on the injured list with a shoulder injury.

Mickey Callaway broke the news when he spoke to the press before Wednesday night’s game between the two teams. Callaway said that Famliia had undergone an MRI on his shoulder after dealing with some discomfort. That MRI revealed a Bennett lesion. He then received an injection to treat the issue.

31-year-old reliever Ryan O’Rourke has been called up from Syracuse to replace the injured Familia. O’Rourke’s last major league action came in 2016 when he was a reliever for the Minnesota Twins. He only has two years and 54 games of MLB experience under his belt.
