The Brooklyn Nets announced Tuesday night that they have requested waivers on guard/forward Theo Pinson.

Pinson spent parts of the past two seasons with Brooklyn, averaging 3.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 51 games. He had played in 33 of the Nets’ 64 games this season prior to the COVID-19 shutdown, averaging 3.6 points, 1.6 boards, and 1.7 dimes in 11.1 minutes per game.

Over his time in the organization, Pinson also played in 43 games with the Long Island Nets, where he averaged 19.5 points, 6.1 boards, and 5.9 assists.

The move reportedly opens up a roster spot for former Phoenix Suns guard Tyler Johnson, a signing the team hasn’t made official but is a done deal, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Nets have long had interest in Johnson, whom they signed to a four-year, $50 million offer sheet when he was a restricted free agent back in the summer of 2016. Miami matched the sheet and kept Johnson for three seasons, before trading him to Phoenix at the 2019 trade deadline.

Johnson played 44 games over parts of two seasons in Phoenix, but was released this past February.
