UFC 249 is looking for a new home.
The event had been scheduled to take place at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on April 18. But in a move that was expected due to the state's ban on large gatherings related to the coronavirus outbreak, the New York State Athletic Commission told UFC on Wednesday that the arena cannot host the MMA showcase, Newsday reported.
"Out of an abundance of caution and in line with recent guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and New York State, the New York State Athletic Commission informed the UFC that UFC 249 cannot be held in NY," the commission said in a statement, via Newsday.
UFC president Dana White has expressed interest in bringing UFC 249, in which lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson are slated to fight in the main event, to another location, possibly outside the country.
