Guardians Release Inaugural XFL Schedule

Let the Guardians' countdown towards the regular season commence.

Kevin Gilbride was named head coach. Matt McGloin was appointed as the team's franchise quarterback. Fans of the newest New York football team face one more obstacle before the Guardians' inaugural season: waiting. 

New York revealed its upcoming 10-game schedule Tuesday morning, days removed from selecting its roster at the XFL Draft. The Guardians will play five games at MetLife Stadium in 2020. The XFL schedule is slated to begin a week after the conclusion of the NFL season in February.

New York opens its schedule against the Tampa Bay Vipers on Feb. 9. 

The Guardians' longest road trip is early in the season when they travel to Washington, D.C. to face former Ohio State standout Cardale Jones and the DC Defenders in Week 2 then the St. Louis Battlehawks. 

Each of the eight XFL teams will compete for four spots in the playoffs. The XFL Championship game is set to take place on April 26.
