Yankees fans everywhere are holding their breath regarding the status of Aaron Judge.
Judge has been dealing with a shoulder/pec problem since the beginning of spring training, and it hasn’t healed up. General manager Brian Cashman admitted Tuesday that Judge is a doubt for Opening Day.
Last season featured a cascade of injuries for the Yankees, and this season is looking like it could be the same. Giancarlo Stanton is out through the beginning of the season, Luis Severino is done for the entire season due to Tommy John surgery and James Paxton won’t be back until May while he recovers from a back ailment. Aaron Hicks is also recovering from Tommy John.
The Yankees are one of the deepest teams in the league. If Judge does miss regular season games, Clint Frazier or Mike Tauchman are two options for filling time in right field.
