After reports that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was looking to trademark the nickname “Tom Terrific,” Mets fans were up in arms over the gunslinger wanting to claim the name bestowed upon Mets Hall of Famer Tom Seaver.
“I was trying to do something because I don’t actually like the nickname and some people wanted to use it," he told reporters. "I was trying to keep people from using it and then it got spun around to something different than what it was.
Some on Twitter didn't believe Brady's excuse.
Nice dodge. We ain't buying it

June 6, 2019 Not buying Tom’s explanation one bit. Saw the outrage and backtracked; what a selfish clown.

June 6, 2019 Other fans are hoping that since Brady doesn’t want the name used in association with him, he will give the trademark to the Seaver family instead.
So is he giving the TM to Seavers family then? Because THAT would be a class move.

June 6, 2019 @TomBrady I’ve got an idea for you. You say you don’t want the #TomTerrific name, just want to protect it. Great, trademark it for, and give it, to Tom Seaver. Now you’re a kind hero and true to your word. You’re welcome.

June 6, 2019 There is a group of fans, however, that recognizes that neither should own the name, as it was given to them by the media.
I'm 65 yrs old and grew up in NY. There was no bigger Seaver fan than me. He still remains on my own personal Mt. Rushmore of pro athletes. Sports sacrilege? Give me an effin' break. BTW, Seaver wasn't the first to be called Tom Terrific. It was a kids' cartoon in the late 50's.

June 3, 2019 He didn’t give himself the name. It was mostly created by the NY media. Seaver earned the nick name, he didn’t give it to himself.
