Adrian Yanez is a fighter on the rise, and after picking up a second-round TKO over Randy Costa last weekend, he is looking to take his career to the next level.

But it didn’t look that way early in last Saturday’s fight, as Costa appeared to have the clear advantage in the first round.

“Honestly, that first round…I’m still pretty pissed off at myself about it,” Yanez told Pete Hoffman on the latest episode of The Fight Fan. “He came in and did what nobody else has really done with me, which is try to box me, and it completely took me by surprise.”

Yanez quickly adjusted, and by the end of the first round, the 27-year-old was finding his way back into his own groove.

“I started changing the tide closer to the end of the first round and I was like ‘Oh, he can’t fight off his back foot. Now I know the strategy. Now I know what I need to do,’” Yanez said.

By the second round, it was all Yanez, though he felt the fight was his by the time he headed back to his corner at the end of the first.

“I took the center and I said ‘I’m not giving this up anymore. This is mine,’” Yanez said. “Once I got into that second round, I was like ‘This is me. It’s not going past that second round.’”

The win lifted Yanez to a 14-3 MMA record and a perfect 3-0 in UFC competition, and has his sights set on a bout against an established veteran next.

Hoffman was also joined by WFAN’s own Lou DiPietro to talk about all things pro wrestling, including their earliest inspirations that drew them into the sport, and J-Bird Jrawings stopped by as well to talk about his love for drawing all WFAN employees, which he continued this week with one of Hoffman himself.
