There’s been a lot of scuttlebutt about WFAN personalities stepping into the ring with each other, the latest being Gio’s assertion that he would love to box Evan – and that brought about the following discussion on Boomer & Gio on Tuesday:
So that got us thinking: what WOULD a WFAN Boxing Card look like? Keep in mind that while we’re not going to disclose weights, we’re not going to go for obvious weight mismatches (i.e. Al ain’t boxing Boomer) or lopsided matchups (i.e. JJ isn’t fighting Schmooze).
So how about this as a 11-match card for the ages, brought to you by...uh, since it was Gio's idea, let's go with TUSHY:
Tommy Lugauer vs. Al Dukes for the Producerweight Championship
Danielle McCartan vs. Lori Rubinson for the Ladies of the Weekend Championship
Chicken Parm Lou vs. Tom “The Wizzo” Izzo for the WFAN.com Championship
Chris McMonigle vs. Eddie Scozzare for the Audio Drop Championship
Jerry Recco vs. Chris LoPresti for the Update Championship
Chris Moore vs. JR Sport Brief for the King of Saturday Afternoons Cup
Evan Roberts vs. John Jastremski for the Brooklyn-Queens-Staten Island Championship
Maggie Gray vs. Amy Lawrence for the Ladies of the Weekday Championship
Gregg Giannotti vs. Marc Malusis for the Mulleted Moose Cup
Richard Neer vs. The Schmooze for the Legends of Radio Championship
And, in the main event…Craig Carton vs. Boomer Esiason for Mike Francesa Trophy!
Brian Monzo, the producer of Moose & Maggie and WWE enthusiast, is your DJ for the night, your ring announcer for the evening is Sal Licata, and we’re bringing back boxing legend Tony Paige to do color analysis next to the one and only voice of WFAN Boxing…JOE BENIGNO!
All sanctioned by the New York Athletic Commission and the esteemed Executive Producer of WFAN Boxing, Mr. Dov Kramer!
We’d pay $50 for that – now to figure out WFAN Punch-Out! featuring Evan as Little Mac and Booms as Mike Tyson…
