On Monday, Gregg Giannotti was all about trying to get Al Dukes onto a new social media network called Raya, which calls itself “membership-based community for people all over the world to connect and collaborate” and accepts less than 10 percent of applications to join.
Come Tuesday, Gio was still all about it, but there was one problem: friend of the show Kevin Clancy, aka KFC from Barstool, was rejected, so Gio thought Al had no shot – and so did KFC when he called in at the end of Tuesday’s show.
“It’s one of the bigger L’s I’ve ever taken,” KFC said of his rejection. “When you apply, they tell you they’ll review your status, so I did it live on my podcast, like getting your SAT results. I got waitlisted, which is basically a polite way to say get the hell outta here.”
KFC was nominated by a friend of his, which is usually a bit of an in, but even KFC and Sydney Esiason’s mutual friend that did it wasn’t enough…but that gave Gio an idea to try to have Sydney vouch for Al.
“What a world! Imagine you’re swiping around and you go from Ben Affleck to Al Dukes?” KFC laughed. “Why not? I know that for the most part it’s people who think they’re famous or want to be famous, but there are very few actually famous people – so Al’s more famous than most of the schmucks running around there.”
Al would say KFC is more famous than he is, but Kevin told Al “not to sell yourself short” as a local celebrity.
“I feel like Al is kind of like a king in his world,” Clancy said.
But, as we all know, there’s a reason some clubs are exclusive.
“Think about it – you own a bar or something and all the girls get in while the guys wait in line…it’s like the digital version of that,” KFC said. “With Raya, I think the idea is trying to protect the more high profile people from that.”
