The Giants will have a big Saquon Barkley question to face this offseason, whether they hit the running back with the franchise tag again, sign him to a longer contract, or cut ties.
BT says the latter would be the best route for the sake of the team, and could help Big Blue get back to the playoffs next year.
“I think with that money - and I love the young man, he’s awesome - you gotta move on,” BT said. “They will take that money and disperse it around the roster. They already have some young weapons like [Wan’Dale] Robinson, Hyatt showed some things.”
Barkley has been one of New York’s best - and only - offensive weapons since being drafted No. 2 overall, but BT believes running back talent can be found further down in the draft, and the Giants would have the financial flexibility to address other areas of need if they don’t commit to Barkley.
“Unless you were a devout Iowa State fan, did anyone know who the hell Breece Hall was before the jets drafted him?” BT said.
“It’s just time to move on. You cannot justify giving him $12 or $13 million…if they are smart - and it’s gonna hurt - if the Giants are prepared to move on from Saquon, the Giants will be a playoff team next year.”
