Jets general manager Joe Douglas talked with reporters on Monday and hit on several different topics, including Jadeveon Clowney’s visit with the team.
“Jadeveon’s visit was outstanding,” Douglas said. “Spent about an hour just talking in my office and getting to know him as a person. It was a very productive visit, just taking him around the building and getting the chance to get to know him. Having brought in a few teammates that he played with last year, they all think the world of him.”
While the visit went well in Douglas’ eyes, there is no deal or pending deal to report between Gang Green and the edge rusher, who the Jets are reportedly “very motivated” to sign.
“There’s no news to report on that,” Douglas said. “We’ve got a plan coming back. If the opportunity presents itself, we’re gonna be ready. Not just on Jadeveon, but any player we feel can come in and help us.”
There was also no news to report on a Zach Wilson trade, as the quarterback’s agent was given the green light to seek a deal to send the former No. 2 overall pick elsewhere after another rough season in New York.
“There’s been a lot of good discussions with his agent, and there’s been some discussions with teams regarding a trade, but I’ve got no news to report,” Douglas said. “There’s nothing close to being done on that front.”
As for the upcoming draft, the acquisitions of offensive lineman Tyron Smith and wide receiver Mike Williams (who Douglas said won’t be ready for the start of training camp but should be ready for the start of the season as he recovers from ACL surgery) have given the Jets plenty of options with their No. 10 pick.
“I think this is an unbelievable o-line class. It’s an unbelievable class at quite a few positions,” Douglas said. “But I think where we’re are at right now, we have great flexibility to go in any direction that we see is best for us moving forward…it opens the door to a lot of possibilities.”
