Keith not buying Juan Soto signing with Mets after Yankee rental: 'Money isn't everything'

Keith has heard all the cautionary comments about Juan Soto potentially being a rental, or even worse, being a rental that ultimately signs a long-term deal with the Mets.

Safe to say Keith isn’t worried about that possibility, considering he doesn’t see it as much of a possibility at all.

“Keep dreaming. I heard the same thing last year with Ohtani,” Keith said. “’Nobody will outbid King Cohen.’” Money can't buy you love. Money isn't everything. Not everybody wants to put on that bum-ass Mets jersey.

“Just get a grip. The reality is, you're still the Mets until you're not...the global brand of the Yankees is based off of winning World Series. Based off of who was worn that Yankee cap and the pinstripes. Who’s to say he’s not absolutely enamored with the Yankee way?”

Keith doesn’t believe money is everything when it comes to free agency, at least not for everyone, and Soto, whose family rooted for the Yankees, could be one of those players that is impacted by the Yankee experience in 2024, and decides that’s where he wants to spend the rest of his career.

“He might love Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole, Giancarlo Stanton and Jasson Dominguez,” Keith said. “Scott Boras works for him. He could tell Scott Boras, ‘It’s only money, I can take care of my family for the next 5,000 years. I really like it here.’

“If the Yankees go through a run in October and this guy gets to feel what the Bronx Zoo is like, it’s gonna be very enticing.”
