Draymond Green reportedly declined his player option with the Warriors on Monday, and will become an unrestricted free agent.
BT says, at the very least, the Knicks should make a phone call to gauge his interest in coming to New York.
“It’s with the understanding that he’s bringing something that this team still needs,” BT said. “If it’s just Draymond Green, then it’s not the right move. If there’s a legitimate sniper or they get really creative and bring in Damian Lillard or Karl Anthony-Towns…the value, it’s almost like a modern [Charles] Oakley.
“If the numbers could work, I would be pretty interested in Draymond Green.”
Green, a four-time All-Star and one of the top defenders in the league, averaged 8.5 points per game while posting the highest effective field goal percentage of his career. But he does come with his own drama, as he was seen on video punching teammate Jordan Poole during a practice earlier in the season, which the team admitted soured the season after coming off another NBA title.
Green, 33, is still a proven winner who BT believes would be a player Tom Thibodeau would love to have in his rotation, and says the Knicks should be interested in adding the four-time NBA champion.
“At the very least, I’m gonna kick the tires and give him a cursory call if they haven’t already,” BT said. “Green is an effort guy, and Tom Thibodeau preaches effort and defense.”
