Jalen Brunson has been on a tear for the Knicks, continuing with another heroic performance on Wednesday night, when he buried two critical buckets down the stretch to finish with 34 points in a New York victory.
Since the calendar flipped to 2023, Brunson has been on fire, averaging 33.2 points and 5.6 assists per game, with the Knicks winning four of five games in that span.

Brunson’s hot streak has caught the attention of other NBA stars, including Donovan Mitchell, who praised Brunson’s recent performance on Twitter after the Knicks win.
“Jalen Brunson has been going crazy!!” Mitchell tweeted.
Indeed, Brunson has been on another level, providing the Knicks with a much needed closer in crunch time, and a reliable scorer who can get a bucket when needed. On Wednesday night, with New York trying to avoid blowing another double digit lead, Brunson dropped in a tough driving layup with the shot clock winding down to put the Knicks up by four with just under three minutes remaining. Then, with just over 90 seconds left and the shot clock again winding down, Brunson drove in and pulled up for a short-range jumper to open up a seven-point lead.
Per StatMuse, Brunson now has more 30-point games this season than in his first four NBA season combined, yet he is still not among the top 10 backcourt vote getters for the NBA All-Star Game. Mitchell would likely disagree with those voting results.
