Boomer and Gio both made sure not to overreact to one game after the Knicks lost to the Celtics on Wednesday night, but if Gio was going to have one not-so-slight overreaction, it was that Wednesday's game will be repeated whenever New York goes up against the top teams in the NBA.
"What we saw last night is a microcosm of what the Knicks will be the rest of the year," Gio said. Good enough to hang with the best teams, give you a little bit of juice, take the lead, be a pain in the ass for the good teams, but not good enough to beat them in the key moments, because there are just more stars on these other teams.
"That is the season in a nutshell, what it could be."
Now, that doesn't mean Gio is looking at the season ahead with any sense of dread. In fact, a Knicks team that can beat good teams in the league, but not ready to take down the best, is something Gio will happily sign up for at this point in their process.
"You get back to the second round with a chance to go to the conference finals," Gio said. "I'm thrilled."
