RJ Barrett's status is in doubt after he injured his ankle in the final seconds of what was a blowout loss to the Nuggets on Tuesday night, and many questioned why Barrett was still on the floor in the first place, as the game had long been decided and Barrett was logging heavy minutes in the second half of a back-to-back.
But Barrett's teammate and fellow starter Julius Randle stood up for head coach Tom Thibodeau's decision to leave in Barrett, who limped off the floor with an ankle injury.
"I'll let ya'll debate that," Randle said, via the Daily News. "Like I said, the only thing that matters is what's in our locker room and what we think as players."
Thibodeau said he left Barrett in because the Knicks had cut the deficit to 13 in the fourth quarter and wanted to try and mount a comeback, but by the final minute, the game was all but decided. Still, Randle, who played 34 minutes after playing 38 the night before, didn't question his coach's thinking.
"I got Thibs' back 100 percent," Randle said. "I trust him. And whatever he asks me to do, I'm going to do."
