Mitchell Robinson responds to criticism of usage complaints: 'Just gotta find myself'

Mitchell Robinson received some criticism for a pair of Snapchat posts following the Knicks' win over the Trail Blazers on Tuesday night, when the center seemed to voice some complaints about his usage, or lack thereof.

"Tired asf of just being out there for cardio fam, like I want to play basketball to…really just wasting my time and energy," Robinson said.

The post came after Robinson attempted just two field goals in the win over Portland, and wasn't the first time he had used social media to vent about his usage on the offensive end. Last season, he tweeted, then deleted, a post that read, "one day they'll let me play," in a seemingly obvious complaint about his lack of involvement within the Knicks offense.

On Thursday night, Robinson responded to a Knicks Fan TV Instagram post to clear the air, suggesting he had let things off the court impact his headspace, and assured Knicks fans that he is consistently out there giving his best effort.

"I been going through the perfect storm as I call it," Robinson said. "After the game against Portland I just snapped, like I got a baby on the way I got family issues, I just got to figure a way to get back under control. When my mind was free I was good, I had three bad games I just started thinking about all the stuff I had going on and kept it going. I'll figure it out though, I'll be fine. My bad, should've handled it differently and didn't want no bad blood, just gotta find myself."

Robinson has been a defensive anchor for the Knicks this season, but like most of his career, isn't relied upon to score points, rather protect the rim and dominate the glass, which he does to an exceptional level, helping him secure a four-year, $60 million contract extension this past offseason. So, while he isn't always happy with his offensive output, Robinson wanted to remind fans of the work he still does in other areas.

"Most of y'all want to say I'm being childish or petty or whatever but let me put this in the air now: I can be selfish, shoot 80 shots and not play defense, but that's not me though," Robinson said. "I give up my body for this s--t, y'all say I'm injury prone, all my injuries came from another play on the defensive side. Let me not play defense like I know I can and not play hard, I'll never hurt again. But I love this s--t too much to not risk getting hurt…so despite the fact that most of y'all say I need to play better, I play the way the want me to. Been doing it for five years now."
