Donte DiVincenzo set a new Knicks record for 3-pointers in a game by pouring in 11 on Monday night against the lowly Pistons, and Detroit head coach Monty Williams didn’t seem too happy for New York’s sharpshooter.
Asked about DiVincenzo after the game, Williams seemed to dismiss the record-setting performance, suggesting that the Knicks were hunting for DiVincenzo to get those triples as New York was in cruise control against Williams’ 12-60 squad.
“I don't care about their team. I couldn't care less,” Williams, said, via Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. “Those guys, the way they got those threes. I don't want to be a part of that story.”
This isn’t the first time Williams raised some eyebrows with his postgame comments after a loss to the Knicks. The last time his Pistons came to New York, a wild loose ball sequence led to heavy contact, no foul calls, and an and-1 for Josh Hart to help the Knicks escape a monumental upset.
After the game, Williams went off on the officiating in what he said was “the absolute worst call of the season.”
