Sal rips NBA Cup, 'sad' lack of competition in regular season

The Knicks had what many believed to be one of their toughest tests of the season to date on Tuesday night in the form of the red-hot Magic, and New York responded by bludgeoning Orlando 121-106 in a game that was a 20-30 point edge for much of the game.

BT and Sal were hyped to watch the game, but instead, they were given a reminder that the NBA isn’t the same, starting with the NBA Cup that was in action on Tuesday at MSG and across the league.

“I don’t care about it. ‘Ohh, if they win by 37 points,’ who cares?” Sal said. “Good God with this stupid NBA Cup! I can’t even watch with these courts...it’s so bright.”

But the NBA Cup and the bright orange court at The World’s Most Famous Arena wasn’t Sal’s biggest concern. It was the margin of victory and wire-to-wire blowout that seems all too common.

“My major issue is with the sport of NBA basketball,” Sal said. “A game like last night, I was looking forward to it, and it was non-competitive. How many games have we seen so far from the Knicks where they either blow the doors off of somebody, or they get their doors blown off? It’s almost like there’s no in between.

“The lack of competition in the NBA’s regular season is sad.”

The Knicks have won or lost by double digits in eight of their last nine games, and there have been wire-to-wire blowouts against teams like the Nuggets, Wizards, Pelicans, and now the Magic. BT and Sal will both continue to watch the Knicks, but it’s become a harder watch because of the sport itself.

“I love the Knicks,” BT said. “And I tolerate the NBA at this point.”
