BT says the Mets should be open to selling off their current core, including Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo, but would also love to see them go after Shohei Ohtani at the trade deadline.
That declaration sent Sal for a loop.
"I think it would be reckless and foolish," Sal said. "I think it would be one of the dumbest things the Mets can ever do, trade for Ohtani midseason.
"If I'm the Mets, they can't afford to trade the prospects needed to get Ohtani, even with him saying he would be here for the next 10 years."
For BT, he was just as thrown by Sal's response as Sal was to his.
"I am absolutely flabbergasted," BT said "For all the shows you've done…lamenting on the start of the Mets and hoping for this and praying for that, I present you with a situation to get Ohtani, and you say you hope the Yankees get him??
"I can't believe this is real. Are we on the air?"
Sal says it would be a "disaster" for the Mets, and BT couldn't believe it, even holding Sal from doing a scheduled reading so he could make sure he was hearing things right.
